New power for Grupa Azoty PUŁAWY
A new power plant with the capacity of 400 MWe is going to be built in Puławy. The project is going to be the largest investment in the region, with an approved budget of 1,125 million PLN.
Modern chemistry requires modern energy supply
The company’s plans follow the energy policy of the European Union. Puławy power plant is going to be a thoroughly modern project, using up-to-date, environmentally-friendly technological solutions. The resource used to generate energy is going to be natural gas purchased from domestic and international suppliers. The capacity of the power plant will be 400 MWe.
At a Puławy conference about new investment projects in Grupa Azoty PUŁAWY, Zygmunt Kwiatkowski, who is the Chairman of the Board of Puławy Power Plant, said that modern chemistry required modern energy supply solutions. In line with this assumption, the team behind the project had decided that the new steam and gas block would need to comply with the strictest environmental norms.
Self-sufficiency with reference to power supply
The investment boasts immense potential. The new power plant is going to complement the existing energy plant in the Works. Together, the facilities will provide even more electricity and heat than needed for the manufacturing processes in Grupa Azoty PUŁAWY installations.
Puławy Works require power supply of about 170 MW. This is well below the capacity of the future power plant, and the excess electricity may be sold on the market.
Investors have taken interest
55-70% of the project is going to be financed from external sources. Grupa Azoty PUŁAWY Chairman Marian Rybak informed that banks and other institutions took great interest in the investment.
At the Puławy conference, the then Minister of Treasury Włodzimierz Karpiński stressed the fact that EU funds would cover some of the cost of the project. Agreements had already been signed with the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. According to the Minister, the project was well on its way to be completed.
The schedule of the construction stipulates that the land where the power plant is planned is going to be provided in 2015. The completion of the construction has been scheduled for 2019. About 60 members of staff are likely to find employment in Puławy Power Plant.
