“Fosfory” will manufacture fertilizers from waste
Recycling is of increasing importance in the era of optimizing the chemical industry and taking care for sustainable development. For this reason, in August 2014 Gdańskie Zakłady Nawozów Fosforowych “Fosfory”, which forms a part of Grupa Azoty PUŁAWY, began to use the phosphates from the reservoir next to a spoil tip in Wiślinka.
For the environment and benefiting the economy
The production of phosphorous-based fertilizers based on the effluent from the waste heap is important in two ways. First of all, the residue from the tank is being reduced. Secondly, we may economize phosphoric acid and water, which is removed to the atmosphere in the form of pure vapor. In August and September only, as many as 3,185 tonnes of the effluent were processed.
What we produce
Phosphorous regained from the effluent is re-used for the production of such fertilizers as Amofoska and Superfosfat, our flagship brand. Thanks to recycling the waste from the tank by Gdańskie Zakłady Nawozów Fosforowych “Fosfory”, as much as 200,000 tonnes of fertilizers may be manufactured annually using the resource from the effluent. The content of the spoil tip and the reservoir will therefore be recycled and removed completely over the next two years.
Reclamation of resources is a worthwhile activity
The storage of post-production waste in Wiślinka was created in the 1960′ and used until 2008. It has been reclaimed thoroughly since 2009. The whole waste storage area, together with the retention tank, takes up 41 hectares and has been secured so as not to have a negative impact on the natural environment.
Thanks to the reclamation activity, “Fosfory” received an approval from the Marshal of Pomorskie Voivodeship to make use of the waste for industrial processes. The project is another example of the strategy of Grupa Azoty PUŁAWY to do business in a responsible and development-oriented manner.
