Bridge in Kamień is open at last
The opening of the bridge in Kamień was eagerly awaited by car users and inhabitants of both banks of the Vistula. The first drivers were finally able to use the bridge on October 17th, 2015. The investment will reduce the travel time from Lubelskie and Świętokrzyskie to Mazowieckie voivodeship.
One of key investments in the region
The bridge in Kamień was one of the primary road investments in Lubelskie voivodeship. The crossing forms a part of voivodeship road no. 747, which connects national road no. 19 in Lubelskie and national road no. 9 in Mazowieckie. The bridge is also a part of a larger plan, which involves the construction of a number of access roads to the crossing, from Lubelskie and Mazowieckie.
The new bridge is almost one kilometer long and 20 meters wide. The total cost of the investment was estimated at over 215 million PLN, with 125 million contributed by the EU framework Development of Eastern Poland program. The remaining sum came from the local budgets of Lubelskie and Mazowieckie voivodeships.
A new bridge after almost 95 years
The new crossing reconnected the banks of the river after a break lasting 95 years. The previous crossing, which was made of wood, was burnt down in September 1939. The construction of the new bridge commenced on August 31st, 2012. Now that it is open and connected with modernized voivodeship road no. 747, the bridge is going to facilitate transportation between Lubelskie and Central, Southern and Western Poland, and it will provide better access from Central Poland to border crossings with Ukraine.
