Sustainable development of fertilizer industry

As one of the leading ammonia producers in the European Union (5% of the manufacturing capacity of EU enterprises), we are doing out best to maintain this high rank. The investment which has just been completed will make it possible to increase our ammonia manufacturing and processing capacity.

Grupa Azoty Zakłady Azotowe “Puławy” S.A. opted for the construction of a large ammonia stockage in order to improve the efficiency and stability of functioning of the installation. The go-ahead for the investment was issued by the General Meeting of Shareholders in December 2010. The total cost of the project, including the construction of a stockage installation with 15,000 tonnes capacity and the system for loading and unloading of rail and car tanks, reached 108.5 million PLN.

An investment that looks ahead

In response to the growing market demand, our strategy of risk management requires innovative investments of this kind. It is now the norm for the ammonia manufacturers to use large, pressure-free ammonia stockage tanks. This kind of facility will give the renovation schedule more flexibility, without the need to reduce output at a given period. Our goal was to gain the possibility to purchase and stock ammonia, and boost our production activity in the process.

After the launch of the installation, the temporary reductions of ammonia production will have been eliminated and renovations will not interfere with the functioning of the installations for urea, RSM and melamine manufacturing. The new tank will constitute a safety valve in case of a temporarily interrupted supply of natural gas and oxygen, which is particularly helpful in the winter season, when the halt and start-up of the installation is subject to stricter technical procedures.
