The Central Statistical Office of Poland presented data about the increase of wages in particular sectors of the national economy. We should pay particular attention to the growing income in agricultural and fishery industries.

In their draft budget for 2016, the Polish government allocated almost 54 billion zloty to agriculture. The aim is to provide agricultural entrepreneurs an opportunity to continue developing their farms, based on financing from the national budget as well as EU funds.

Polish food is growing in popularity all over the world. The first mention about the existence of Puławy goes back to the 15th century. At first the settlement was called Pollawy, while the present shape of the name became widely used in early 16th century. In the 17th century Lubomirscy Family became the owners of Puławy village, while in the 18th century the land was taken over by Czartoryscy Family, under whose governance Puławy flourished. This was possible thanks to an important asset of the town: a port on the Vistula river.

The following aspects of food security are the most commonly analyzed: affordability, availability and quality and safety. Affordability is defined as “the presence of adequate amount of food for the whole population at a given time, in order to provide sustenance”. Availability refers to unrestricted food supply on the market, while quality means that the food ensure a balanced and safe diet.

Magnesium content of most Polish soils is low. It is therefore necessary to take into consideration the fact that plants require this element. If it is supplemented, unnecessary losses in yield volume may be avoided.

The European Union has been promoting the pro-environmental agriculture model for years now. The attitude is visible in the current Rural Development Program, whose five pillars include sustainable farming.

Polish agriculture requires an impulse leading to modernization. Domestic farms need more resources allocated to innovation. Resources ought to be used better, and productivity should be improved, as the competition from global food corporations is on the rise. Farming that is adaptable to such conditions may cope with the challenges posed by globalization.
