Azoty Puławy Sports Club – the pride of the town and the Works

Azoty Puławy Club handball players came third in the qualifications round of the Superleague, only yielding to teams from Kielce and Płock. Puławy team has been in great shape, and it has only been defeated in 5 out of 22 matches in 2015/16 season.

Major changes in the team

Before the beginning of the season, Ryszard Skutnik’s team had undergone a major makeover. Nine team members in total had left, and the team was joined by seven new members, including Robert Orzechowski, Patryk Kuchczyński and Michał Kubisztal, who are well-known to all handball fans, as well as Leos Petrovski and Jakub Krupa who play for the Czech national team, and Bartosz Kowalczyk, a member of Polish junior handball team.

Azoty Puławy Club kicked off the season with a few wins. Despite some defeats, such as in the matches with the above-mentioned Orlen Wisła Płock, Vive Tauron Kielce and MMTS Kwidzyn in the national league, and in the match with the vice-champion of Switzerland, Pfadi Winterthur in EHF European Cup, Skutnik’s team have usually left the court having gained the upper hand.

At the end of the final season, Azoty Puławy Club had collected 33 points after 16 wins, one draw and five defeats. In the total of 22 matches, Puławy team had scored 669 times and lost 589 goals. In the decade the team has participated in Superleague, Azoty Puławy Club had never had such a good result.

The game is not over

The main part of Superleague season is yet to start. The Club representatives are open about the ambition to win a medal. Puławy players are going to defend the third position from 2014/2015 and they want to come third this season or improve on the previous result. The coaches and team members have admitted that their plans are very ambitious.

Apart from Superleague games, Azoty Puławy Club is also participating in Polish Cup games. Following a win over Wybrzeże Gdańsk, the team qualified to the quarter-final. Stal Mielec will be their opponent in the next two matches, but Azoty team is expected to win and move on to the semi-final.

Do keep in mind the fact that most of the team members are also participating in the matches played by their national teams. A few handball players from the Club are likely to head for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Handball players from Puławy are certain to provide fans with even more interesting matches to watch this year.
